I have seriously considered going to a furler on my SJ 23
because I usually single hand and have my 150 up here in the islands and
you can come around an island into an open channel and really get a strong gust.
But when I had a Catalina 36 here the major problems I encountered were with the
jib furler hanging up. Twice while motoring so I could get the autohelm to hold
a course while I fixed the jib furler, the sheet pounded loose and dragged under
the boat and wrapped around the prop! Had to cut the sheet, rerig, and then chop
the sheet off the engine shaft! This water is cold and I don't want any more of
that. I will make my sail changes on deck.
