Man I am impressed with the quality of the responses on this topic. Just one suggestion from me. Don't forget to raise the centerboard when docked and before departing if your moorage is experiencing a minus 1.7 tide! I left the dock with board down two weeks ago to race in the Shaw Island Classic and promptly went aground as I backed out with board down! My crew was sent to check and see if board was down and promptly yanked and broke off the center board pennant. We were a little late to the start line. From now on my board will be secured up until I am ready to sail.

This has been a great exchange. I have learned a lot from it. Thanks. This is just what the SJ23 WebPages were designed to do. I feel rewarded for all the work I and Bob Schimmel and Hal Mueller do when I see these great exchanges.

I agree with Mike - leave the centerboard down. The only time the board
should be up is when you're beaching; sailboats are not designed to be
operated without a keel (or centerboard, in this case).
