I used 1-1/2" UHMW polyethylene which doesn't splinter as plywood does.
Because it's pretty slippery be sure to counter-bore seats for your outboard
clamps. UHMW is easy to work with common tools, never requires painting and
(probably) will outlast the hull. Plus, it's very readily available.
