I used 1-1/2" UHMW polyethylene which doesn't splinter as plywood does.
Because it's pretty slippery be sure to counter-bore seats for your outboard
clamps. UHMW is easy to work with common tools, never requires painting and
(probably) will outlast the hull. Plus, it's very readily available.

That is what I had originally planned, and may still do it, but I want to
