Hi Eric:

From your description it sounds like you are installing the shackle the 
correct way, through the small eye installed on the trailing edge of the

This shackle is very small to fit inside the trunk.  If you use anything 
larger, it will bind inside the trunk. If you install it wrong it will 
bind.
