A cubic foot of fresh water = 62.5 lbs. 4 cubic ft of foam will give
about 240 lbs of floatation. Best to distribute this in bow and stern.
However, if you want real floatation I suggest going to at least 10
cubic feet. That way you can also support the crew. No point in making
them hang i the water just for the gaiters to nibble on.
In reality an SJ23 sinking it a problem. If the hull stays intact it
will keep you at the surface. The biggest concern lies with the
thru-hull fittings. Pay attention to the quality of the fittings and
the sealant. See Tech Tip B17
