Mike, I ordered my new hatch from Alan Cesany in early July. His website address is attached and he is located in Florida. I have copied him on this email for your reference and for his. Alan was very helpful in advising me of the best size and type of material to use and cut and finished the hatch to size including the hole for my Nicro vent. His principal business is yacht window replacement. Regards, Doug Murray www.yachtwindows.com mike_hancock@xxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Thanks, I would like to talke to the company in Florida. It is 1/2 inch dark smoked glass (see the tech tip). Much, much stronger although you will have to shim the hinges up a little to get the correct compression on the seal. I will replace my seal (Gene provided mine) and provide the height specification for the shims in the spring when this winter makes its exit. They give a good seal, but I am a bit concerned about the ability to quickly open the hatch in an emergency. That emergency could be water or fire. A secure hatch that can be quickly opened sounds like a good bet to me. In truth, my SJ23 has NO dogs on it right now. The po appeared to be in the process of installing some, as holes were drilled in the hatch and strike plates installed. That is as far as he got, and I did not get the dogs when I bought the boat. I will no doubt have to figure out how to seal holes in plexiglass in this project. Another option would be to just replace the plexiglass. Welcome to the club. Have another read on the Tech tip for part numbers. I updated it for you. I suggest using two dogs for mechanical strength and a better seal.
