Re: outboard

Bob,

I use a 5 1/2 horse four cycle Honda and it is plenty of power. With 8 you
can probably get another one mile per hour which you don't need. I have
pushed my SJ23 all over Puget Sound and up Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast
of British Columbia with no problems. That includes Dodds Narrows which you
try to hit at Ebb Tide even if you have a 20 HP inboard as I did when I had
a Catalina 36. One other point is that if you do shear a prop key on some
drift wood or bouncing over a rock, you can wrestle the 5 1/2 horse into the
cockpit to change the key. You couldn't do that with anything much bigger. I
have done that several times while fishing and sailing around my own island
without my dinghy.
