Re: Trailers

Read some of the stories in the e-mail archives, especially the one by Betsy
Schultz about trailers and I think you will probably want to consider the
tandem axle over the single. But the single should be fine if you just want
to travel from home to marina or local launch ramp. The vehicle pulling the
trailer is very important from what I have read from other SJ23 skippers. If
you plan to trailer cross country I would get the right vehicle and a tandem
trailer. That is mucho dinero but the safest way to go.

I am basing my opinions on what others have written, not experience. I have
only hauled a Hobie Cat cross country, not a SJ23. I personally have an old
single axle SJ23 Calkins I bought from Art Brown for $500 when he built a
new one. He used it just for in and out of the water and decided to do some
cross country upon retirement.. The tires and brakes are about shot but it
works for me since I only haul the boat up to dry storage at the marina.
