Re: Motor shaft length question

The longer the better, but in general anything over 20" should work (or simply the long shaft motor) Don't settle for anything below it no matter what a good deal..

Subject: Motor shaft length question

Here's a fairly stupid question that I couldn't find the answer to on the San Juan website (which is an awesome site BTW - makes me very happy I finally bought a boat the had a production run of more than 5 :)
How long should the shaft on the motor be?  15", 20", 25".    The longer the better when under way by motor, but obviously when out of sailing or at dock, I don't want the thing dragging in the water.
I'd measure the one that came with the boat, but I already pulled it off and gave it to a mechanic who declared it DOA (it had been sitting on the back of the boat in the water for 2 years+).

Subject: San Juan 23 wiring diagram

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the San Juan 23?
I have a San Juan 23 and I am replacing the Electrical switch panel to
enable me to add more circuits for an extra light and depth sounder.
Nothing fancy. When I started to get into the wiring I found a mess of
splices and wires that went to who knows where. While I don't want to
rewire the entire boat, I would like to clean up all of these stray wires.
All of the wires are red going into the panel. I know that wires going to
different appliances should be color coded, so I'm not sure what's going on
I know all of the positive leads go from the panel to the appliance. Where
and how are the negative wires led to the battery? I assume it's one
common area such as a bus bar.
