The original factory rudders were made with a fiberglass shell, and a structural foam core. Over time the foam comes loose from the shell and you see the result. I will guarantee my rudders for at least two years, because we use a thicker shell, and lighter foam. You can get a replacement blade at pgardnersj@xxxxxxx.

You do not want your blade to snap off if you didnt hit anything in a squall. Besides , you would probably take out your keel first.

From a beginner's point of view, wouldn't you want the rudder to be the weak point? I would think you would want the rudder to break rather than the mounting or hull.
