I think it is a great idea even though I can't get enough time from work to make a trip across the U.S. from the San Juan Islands to Charlotte. In the future regionals on the west coast and gulf coast and maybe a northern in Canada or in the Great Lakes area are also possibilities. One in the center of the country might also work. Some of us have trailers that are only good for launching and retrieving so we don't trail our boats. But in my opinion anytime a representative number of San Juan 23s get together and race it is fair to call it a National Championship. "Good on yer" as the Aussies would say!

Subject: RE: SJ 23 National Championships
So...are you all up for a San Juan 23 National Championships held in conjunction with the Labor Day Regatta 2003 at the Lake Norman YC in Charlotte, NC? With 5 boats we get our own trophies from the regatta, and I'll pony up for a Champs' trophy either way. Your thoughts? Should we wait for 2004? I say let's press ahead....
