Re: gennaker info wanted

Bob
Dousing a spinnaker is very easy if you run dead down wind, and let the guy
run. Your halyard should be led back to the cockpit. Your main should be all
the way out, and you bring the spinnaker under the boom so the main
backwinds the spinnaker. On the 21, I bring the clews together, and then let
the halyard run. On the 34, I bring them all in at once, my chute on the 34
is a bit small for the boat, and it is easier to bring them all in at once.
I find flying the chute by myself no problem, as long as you keep plenty of
sea room to take it down. I have had to us as much as thirty minutes to get
the big chute down, when the wind came up extra strong when I rounded a
point, but I was able to fly it even before my bypass operation. I am sure
my doctor would not have been thrilled if he had known about it. The key is
to not panic. Do it by the numbers The best takedowns are very dull.
